Philadelphia Alternative Rock band, The Escape release their EP today, The Mark We Leave Behind. Striving to improve their style after last EP New Direction, and working with Vince Ratti whose worked with mewithoutyou and Circa Survive, there’s certainly a chance that this EP is going to be very good.
With a rough and ready style with a good grasp on melody, The Escape have made some great tracks from the opening on this EP. Living In A Dream and Underwater really make that clear, with some good riffs and some even better drum beats that really get going at the right time – The Escape have some good musical timing and it shows on this record, this band have certainly developed since their last record and it shows.
The vocals are strong throughout on this EP, particularly their lead single Soon Forgotten, which was an excellent choice, showing the best of what this band do, with a big chorus and a great rhythm section working really well together. The whole EP works together and makes it an easy thing to listen to. The production could be improved, however what is important is the music and it’s pretty good on The Mark We Leave Behind.
Full of highlights, my personal favourites are Living In A Dream and Two Steps Forward, however it’s pretty strong EP, that this band should be proud of. For fans of bands such as Bayside and that kind of vibe, it’s certainly worth giving a listen. You can see the video for Soon Forgotten here.
