The Best Songs from Tony Hawks Pro Skater.

File:THPS4.jpgI grew playing the video games inspireed by Tony Hawks, the first being Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4, which influenced my music tastes more than most games – with only female character in that game, Elissa Steamer, there wasn’t much choice for the young female skateboarding enthusiast however when it came to the soundtracks, these games were awesome.

  1. Drunken Lullabies by Flogging Molly (THPS4) – there’s loads of great songs on Pro Skater 4, Goldfinger’s Spokesman, TNT by AC/DC, and All My Best Friends Are Metalheads by Less Than Jake,  what more could you need when you’re grinding an architecture building? However this track for me stands out, with energetic and frenzied violins and a big hook that you will have stuck in your head for the rest of your life (I know that has happened to me), this song is one of the highlights of an amazing soundtrack.

2. Blitzkrieg Bop by The Ramones (THPS3) – With tracks from musicians such as Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Zebrahead also on this record, really this track was one of the oldest tracks on the game, however, it’s a classic track which anyone who has played Rock Band will know. Blitzkrieg Bop has a fierce, frenetic sound with a raw vocals that sounds like the sound of teenage rebellion, perfect for a skateboarding game really.

3. You – Bad Religion (THPS2) – Bad Religion are the quintessential punk band and this track comes from their second album No Control, which brought more hardcore punk to their sound, which gives the record a speed they didn’t have on their first, and You is one of the highlights of the album. Big drum beats and the rough production that really was the sound of punk in California in the 1980’s, it’s a great track to have on a Pro Skater game.

4. Superman – by Goldfinger (THPS) – from the very first Tony Hawks game, lead singer John Feldmann is better known for production these days working with bands such as All Time Low and of course 5 Seconds Of Summer, however Superman, Here In Your Bedroom and Spokesman are all excellent tracks from the band he lead Goldfinger, and one of the highlights from the soundtrack of the game. With a more of a ska sound to the song and a great melody, it’s a nice tune for a video game.

5. Secrets – State Champs (THPS5) – The next installment of the game is coming, and State Champs are just one of the great bands chosen, with Icon For Hire, Royal Blood and Four Year Strong also on the game, however Secrets for me is the highlights of the new soundtrack. A big pop punk anthem for the ages and a big chorus, this band are one of the best thing about Pure Noise Records.
