Review: Beach Weather – What A Drag EP.

beach weather 20158123’s newest recruits, Beach Weather who are joining them on their Free For All tour this fall, released their new and debut EP at the end of last month, What A Drag, and you can listen to it now on Spotify. A project with Nick Santino who has been working solo and former A Rocket To The Moon singer leads.

Melodies on this EP are all excellent with some great grooves that are remiscent of surfer rock and luscious beaches that will remind you of summer for the rest of your life, with big pop beats on tracks like Bad Seed that makes for a diverse but well brought together debut from the band, tracks such as Rebel Sun also make for a great sound and well worth giving a listen.

Santino has proven enough in the past he can write a song, and it’s no different on What A Drag, with some big choruses going on throughout the EP, tracks such as Swoon and New Skin making it pretty clear that it is intended that you get these songs stuck in your head, and that’s quite fine by me.

Probably the most interesting project on 8123, other than The Maine, it will be interesting to see what else they can create as it’s a very good beginning from Beach Weather that makes me want to hear more from these guys. Highlights for me on this are Bad Seed and Rebel Sun however the whole EP is pretty good and it’s worth a listen if you like a retro throwback for the end of your summer.
