Review: Better Than Never – Homemade Hero EP.

unnamedHomemade Hero is the new EP from Oxford Pop punkers Better Than Never, who release their new record on the 19th February through Fox Records. You can listen to the new EP from the band thanks to Upset Magazine right now here and the band will be touring the UK in the very near future.

Better Than Never are better than ever on this record, with big hooks and the angst that you need for a great pop punk sound, Back Of The Line, Kid certainly makes it clear this band are not messing around when it comes to wanting to getting you singing along with them – this band certainly have the ability to get something stuck in your head.

Some big guitar work that really gives this EP pace is clear throughout, but tracks such as Dead Weight really stand out particularly working with the drum work on this track where the song really comes together sound wise perfectly, I suppose this record can be considered generic pop punk however this is the band’s debut and it will be interesting where this band go in the future with their sound, as based on this, it should be pretty awesome what they can make as they continue to make music.

Homemade Hero has everything you want in a pop punk record, big choruses, great melodies and an energy and bounce throughout the record that makes Homemade Hero a great listen. The band’s highlights here for me are Back Of The Line, Kid and Panama, which is a great collaboration with Splitfist, and certainly worth giving a listen.

7/10.
