Review: Roam & Against The Current – KOKO, Camden – 21/03/2016.

atcliveAgainst The Current don’t need a reason to set the world on fire, but last night they certainly lit up London a little brighter as they headlined Koko in their biggest venue yet with support from their European tour buddies Roam – the bands matching each other’s energy perfectly.

Roam are incredibly energetic on stage, I believe their vocalist is the first I’ve ever seen do a somersault on stage, combining excellent pop punk and acrobatics perfectly as they played an excellent set including Hopeless Case and Dead Weight which really got the show moving as soon as they stepped on stage.

Chrissy Constanza is such an expressive lead singer, when she sings a song, she means and it shows throughout a live show, the way she moves and they way she sings makes an incredible combination, sort of broadway meets pop punk and it’s an excellent mix. With four huge new tracks, including Chasing Ghosts which highlights Constanza’s vocals perfectly to older tracks like Infinity which keep the pace after huge songs like Running With The Wild Things, this band know how to do a live show – it’s no surprise this is their third London headline show.

From the moment the show started the production was excellent too, particularly during Against The Current’s set, the lights were so incredibly on point throughout, it added to the show and was worth the wait for the set up of, as they combined with the music playing brilliantly. One of the most energetic and well put together show I’ve seen so far, I look forward to the band’s return already – the two bands may seem very different, but for the most part, it worked.

9/10.
