Review: The Foxery – American Dissonance.

American Dissonance cover artThe Foxery released their EP American Dissonance back in January through Spartan Records. The band who are known for their incessant touring and just as incessant writing were recently seen on tour with labelmates Secret Stuff, where they launched this EP  which you can listen to right now on Bandcamp.

This band create something very unique with their music and that certainly is clear from the moment this EP begins with a mixture of vocals and sweeping melodies building up in layers that make this record something memorable from the second it starts. Whomever described this band as ‘spooky punk’ were on to something.

The Foxery keep the writing simple, but it works so well with the music this band create, Filth Zer0 opens this record and shows just how that dynamics works, with subtle drum work and dark guitar riffs that mold perfectly together throughout. The songs are honest but out there and that unique quality is something that will just keep you listening to this record – it’s the way they’re sung that makes these songs fascinating, with choral parts, screaming and singing, its cleverly put together.

American Dissonance is made up of three tracks of what The Foxery are all about, building dramatic and tense melodies with vocals that hold your attention, this is a band who have so much more to show than these – this is a great taste of what’s to come. The band have an incredible amount of talent and it shows throughout the whole of the EP – these tracks work brilliantly together and should be listened to that way.

8/10.
