Review: Cassadee Pope – Summer EP.

Cassadee Pope won the US version of The Voice and since her new career begun she’s been making huge strides in country, especially recently with her collaboration with Chris Young, scoring her first country number one and now she releases her Summer EP, which you can hear on Spotify here now.

Pope’s strong vocals are on display perfectly throughout this record, with some incedible notes on tracks such as Kisses In Airports and Summer that really display that voice perfectly. It’s always been clear how good her voice is (see Candles in her Hey Monday days) however these songs feel like such a good fit for her voice, this is where she was meant to be.

There’s some great writing throughout this EP, Alien for me stands out for me, she has those country vibes, but you can tell there is still a rock sound there still, Pope brings her unique spin to the genre in my opinion on tracks like this, and it makes her record stand out. Though there is some lack of imagination when it comes to melodies that really need more energy to match her vocals, she brings her own style to this record, and it makes for a great listen throughout.

A fresh feel to the EP, I hope its a taste of what is to come from Cassadee Pope as there is some really lovely songs on this record, there’s not lyrically a weak track on this EP – highlights for me on this record are Alien and first single Summer. A versatile EP that works to Pope’s strengths.

7.5/10.
