Review: Joy Williams – Venus Acoustic.

Joy Williams released her debut solo album last year and to follow that up, she has released some acoustic versions of some of those tracks which you can listen to right now through Spotify here. Part of The Civil Wars and breaking out solo with real excellence, the quality matches here.

Williams has an incredible voice and it’s so delicate and fragile throughout this record and this shows as soon as you begin listening to this album. Someone To Love You really does put her voice on display perfectly throughout and that continues – Joy Williams has such an incredibly luxurious sound to her voice and makes for such an easy listen throughout the mini album.

The melodies entwine really well with the vocals on this record throughout, though her voice is really what is important here, the melodies are subtle and really are a fantastic support to her sound, tracks such as We Can Never Go Back are a perfect example of this and makes for one of the highlights of the record. The writing is excellent and how she has worked these words to the new acoustic melodies really work on the acoustic album, it takes expertise to make it sound this good.

Highlights for me are Welcome Home and We Can Never Go Back. Some awesome acoustic interpretations from a great album.
