Review: K Flay – Crush Me EP.

Recently seen on tour with Pvris, K Flay released her new EP yesterday Crush Me. Known for a raw honesty to her lyrics and beats that you can move to, this doesn’t change on her latest outing which you can hear right now through Spotify here.

That dark edge to her melodies is so natural to her and it shows on this record as soon as the EP starts. Blood In The Cut opens the EP and that dark sound compliments her fragile vocals, something that keeps going throughout this record – there is something haunting about her voice and it shows here more than ever.

The writing is strong and honest on this record but with a way of getting stuck in your head with ease, tracks such as Hollywood Forever and You Felt Right certainly bring those real but simple lyrics with that way of becoming an earworm with ease. Combined with the vocals the delivery of these songs is great, her voice may seem small but she is fierce on this record.

Crush Me contains one of my new favourite songs, bringing together the best of what K Flay does on this EP. Hollywood Forever and You Felt Right being the higlights for me, but these tracks are definitely all worth a listen.

8/10.
