June Dark has recently released a new three track EP, Playing With Fire. Born in South Korea and making music in the US, after dropping out of high school in her home country, June Dark has been honing her craft solo after leading band Clandestine, on tour across the US.
Melodies are something that come naturally to June Dark, opening track Phoenix has huge melodies that are part piano, part synth and really work with Dark’s vocals that are powerful throughout. The vocals sound perfect for a rock song and partnered with the electro pop sound it really does work, her strong vocals balancing with the melodies well.
Second track Gasoline tears has an awesome chorus that with her vocals is such a great listen, she has soaring vocals that really reflect the emotion of the song. The writing is honest and raw and combined with the timing of the melodies, it works brilliantly together. Phoenix also has some great writing, that really makes it clear June Dark’s voice has got to be heard.
Playing With Fire has two great tracks, if anything I wish there was more. June Dark creates some really good electropop on her EP, which blends with her force of a vocal that really is the highlight of this short record, it’s worth checking out.
