Review: Boat Race Weekend – Throw Your Head To The World.

TYHTTW artworkSpokane Emo trio Boat Race Weekend release their new EP today, Throw Your Head To The World! Who are reminiscent of bands soundwise to Brand New or Have Mercy and that isn’t surprising particularly on tracks such as Broken Teeth which you can give a listen to through Soundcloud here.

This band keep the melodies subtle and really allow those raw and emotional vocals to really take centre stage on this record, Kruschke’s vocals are powerful on this EP throughout that drives forward with so much passion and it works well with the melodies the band are creating. The writing is poetic and does display some great lyricism, creating a genuine sound.

This band’s sound does begin to  build as the EP goes on, particularly on tracks such as Better Days where the drums and guitars really raise the level of the track, the guitars lifting the energy of the song and combined with the drums the band really work together well to give it the melody it deserves, making for a standout track on Throw Your Head To The World!

Boat Race Weekend’s Emo prowess is on display throughout this EP, the band creating some dark melodies on this record, the tracks building in quality as the record goes on for me and it makes for some great listening. Highlights for me on this record are Better Days and She, The Ocean, where the band create some great tracks as they work together brilliantly.

7/10.
