Avenged Sevenfold release their first studio album without Warner in ten years, last week, The Stage. A surprise release after the single had only been released for a few weeks, the band certainly make an album that is a throwback in ways to their City Of Evil era. You can listen to the album on Spotify right now.
The band have always had great guitarists and that seriously has not changed, the riffs are storming on this record from the beginning and really shows the experience from previous records knowing when to pick up the pace, hence the City Of Evil comparisons. A track that really exemplifies this, The Stage brings some classic Avenged Sevenfold.
This band work together brilliantly, that’s clear, and M Shadows vocals haven’t changed, there still as raw but powerful as they ever have been, however there are odd things due to it’s concept. The album is about articificial intelligence and that has allowed the band to explore a real diversity of genres and it makes for an interesting concept record. Even better when Neil Degrasse Tyson is doing spoken word on your album, a perfect person to choose considering the idea of the record and Exist (where he appears) is a hell of a finale.
A band that brings together a range of different styles on this record that makes this record an incredibly wild listen from the start, this band incorporate thrasher elements in places and rock melodies in part, with unique sounds that really make this album an incredible listen, those trumpet sounds on Sunny Disposition are an interesting addition to the drumwork that few will see coming. Highlights for me on this record are Sunny Disposition, Roman Sky is one of the great ballad tracks on this album and Exist, is how you should end an album like this.
