Review: Catherine McGrath – One EP.

Image result for one catherine mcgrathCatherine McGrath released her four track EP just before Christmas, made up of four tracks that include Hell Would Have To Freeze Over which you can see a video for here. McGrath creates a mixture of pop and country on this EP incredibly well, which you can hear completely on spotify right now.

Hell Would Have To Freeze Over is a catchy acoustic track with some biting lyrics that work perfectly with McGrath’s delivery – a raw but fun track that opens the record perfectly. This continues on tracks such as Say You Love Me is just as good, but so different as she takes down a pace and delivers a nice acoustic ballad with a strong vocal that works so well.

The melodies are nice, a little sugary sweet throughout, this record really highlight the vocals over the music, though tracks such as Say You’ll Love Me does have some good guitar work, that harmonises so well with McGrath’s voice. One is a charming record throughout, and a great sign of what she can do as a musician, though what she wants to create is a little unclear.

A nice record from McGrath, she has some really nice lyricism here and a good sign of what is to come from this musician.
