Review: One Ok Rock – Ambitions.

Image result for one ok rock ambitionsAmbitions is the new record from One OK Rock, which was released yesterday through Fuelled By Ramen.  A band who have been gaining ascendance internationally recently, and are huge in their homeland of Japan make it clear why on this record, which you can listen to now on Spotify here.

The melodies this band create are great throughout Ambitions, the band bringing some great riffs with that keep the energy going throughout this album – of course their own influences make this album stand out from it’s American pop punk counterparts, however that makes very little difference, this band know how to make music.

The band have two collaborations on this album that actually make for some great highlights on the album. Tracks with 5 Seconds Of Summer and Alex Gaskarth stand out, particularly Jaded which stars the singer of All Time Low. A huge chorus that highlights both vocalists, it really does stand out on this record. The vocals are powerful on this record, with a real versatility, there’s a soft tone and then bringing it to those choruses that is rarely done so well.

The acoustic tracks such as Hard To Love and Listen are a perfect illustration of just how good the vocals from Moriuchi are and this band back him up well with some great melodies, One Way Ticket and Jaded are good examples of this. Ambitions certainly is ambitious, and makes for a consistent listen. So many highlights on this album if you like bands such as All Time Low, you’re going to like this record.

8/10.
