We Live In Troubled Times: Musicians Who Are Donating To Charities.

Oh, Donald Trump. One of the fourteen signs of Fascism is a hatred for the culture and arts (It’s point 11, in fact) and I think it’s been clear that Trump isn’t a big fan and it’s certainly mutual, this is clear to see from the many artist and businesses who have created campaigns to donate to the ACLU, which you can do here.

  1. Bandcamp today announced they would be donating all money made on Friday through their site to the ACLU. Bandcamp have an incredible breadth of talent on their site, with music from Topshelf Records being on there (who have also donated to causes including ACLU recently, in the wake of Trump’s win).
  2. Musicians including Sia, Jack Antonoff, John Legend and Grimes have all announced they will be donating match funding to the ACLU, it just takes a retweet for them to donate if you have donated yourself.
  3. All Time Low have announced they have created a t-shirt which you can preorder here where all the money will be going to the ACLU. If you didn’t know, Jack Barakat is/was a refugee from Lebanon as a kid, a country that has been on banned lists much like the one in place now. Fall Out Boy are also planning a shirt release too in the near future, so keep a look out for that.
  4. Alternative Press have also said ‘Taking Back Sunday’s John Nolan is working on a special EP to benefit the ACLU. Fighting Back With Music will feature rare or unreleased music from bands such as Anti-Flag, Taking Back Sunday, Frank Iero and Sleep on It with all proceeds also going to the American Civil Liberties Union’ here.
  5. Here’s a list of people who don’t like Trump just if you want to look up anyone.
  6. There’s a couple of Indie Rock compilations which you can find out more about here.
  7. You can listen to Four Tet’s playlist on Spotify here, which is a compilation of musicians who hail from the country’s that are on Trump’s banned list.
  8. Alternative Press this weekend are donating money to ACLU if you buy online.

This list is probably going to get bigger and more detailed as Trump builds a great case for himself to be impeached, if there’s anything you’d like me to add (or you’re a musician doing something for the ACLU or organisations such as Planned Parenthood) Please feel free to comment or get in touch.
